Resource Index | Left Brain | Right Brain | Courses | Site Directory Meditation for Peace in Time of Disaster Disturbed the events of September 11, 2001, many people asked for a meditation to offer support and healing to beings directly affected, and to promote the energy of peace at this crucial time. The following meditation may be used by any being at any time, and for any length of time. Do not be fooled by its simplicity! Done with sincere intention, it will be very effective. The Meditation Place the mind at the heart-centre, an area at the centre of the chest, extending 2-5 fingers up from the bottom of the breastbone. Imagine there a glow of soft, rose-coloured light. Take a minute or two to allow your mind to clear and settle. (This may be difficult if you are personally affected by events, or if you have been deeply disturbed by the stories and images in the media. Don't worry! It is enough to allow the mind to clear and settle just a little bit.) Now, as you breathe in, think: MAY ALL BEINGS FIND HEALING. As you breathe out, think: MAY ALL BEINGS FIND PEACE. Continue to breathe in and out, keeping your mind on the rose-coloured glow at your heart-centre and using this mantra. You can murmur it aloud or simply form the words in your mind, as appropriate. Understand that the more peaceful you can be, the more peaceful your neighbour will be. This prayer is especially recommended at times when you are feeling particularly disturbed by images and thoughts of war. Do not dwell on these images and thoughts while doing the meditation, but likewise do not try to thrust them away. Just keep returning your mind to the meditation.
