T'ai Chi is a gentle series of movements that helps balance one's physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. As a moving meditation, it is a wonderful adjunct to sitting meditation. The form has been practised for centuries by lay people throughout China as a means to ward-off illness and strengthen physical well-being. This winter we will be combining an introductory class, with a focus on the first stage of the form, and, for those students who completed the first stage last year, we will begin work on the second stage of the form. All members of Friends of the Heart are welcome to attend these classes and may join at any time throughout the year.
The class curriculum will include a Qi Gong warm-up, T'ai Chi walking practice, individual form instruction, and silent movement to end the class. This year we will be adding some partner work on the applications that relate to the individual movements of the form. These teachings are beneficial to students at all levels of their work. Teachings on the philosophy and medicinal benefits of T'ai Chi will be included where appropriate, as well as group discussion and feedback.
