Comments on our Spring 2007 Lovingkindness retreat
"Despite having never meditated before, I felt very comfortable on this retreat with the instructions, guidance, and the teacher, who was very approachable and went out of her way to give me extra consideration."
"While I originally found the silence discomfiting, I eventually got used to it. Well done and well organized."
"The timing of the schedule was impeccable. Stillness and activity felt perfectly balanced."

Lovingkindness -- Tonglen and Metta Practice
Lovingkindness is radiant warmth and openness; a natural and heartfelt
wish that a person be happy. Lovingkindness or Metta meditation cultivates
our connection and care for others and ourselves.
Tonglen is a simple and profound mind-training practice of 'taking and sending' where we reverse the flow of our usual 'me first' way of relating to the world.
These practices cultivate positive states and do more; they change us from the inside. Forgiveness, compassion and patience expand and the mind moves into stillness. Insight, clarity and equanimity arise as we discover the deeper
truth of our lives.
Harmony Dawn, near Peterborough offers an environment of natural beauty and quiet, delicious food and a calm energy that provides a deep support to your practice. The retreat routine simplifies your life so that, for a short
period of time, you can focus more intently on transformative work. This
retreat is suitable to both those new to retreat and those who want to
deepen their practice.
You are welcome to come only to the weekend portion which focuses on metta and tonglen or stay for the full 4 days. On Sunday we will move into investigation or Insight practice with our open hearts. 4 day retreat info.
Plan to arrive by 4 pm on Friday for settling in and orientation, with
dinner at 6 pm. We will gently settle into silence from after dinner on Friday evening
until lunch on Sunday. You will be on the road by approx. 2 pm Sunday.
Please register early as spaces are limited.

Retreat Precepts
At the beginning of retreat and for the duration of the retreat, all participants are asked to undertake a commitment to harmonious living. We take at least the first 5 Precepts and depending on retreat and teacher, the additional 3 precepts. These will be explained in depth prior to start of retreat. If you have any questions, please contact us. The retreat organizer or teacher will be happy to answer any questions.

Advance Reading for All Retreats
Please have a look at our brief guide to approaching retreat meditation
at Turn
Your Retreat Into an Advance by Catherine Jetsun Yeshe and
Joyce Allen. When we do retreat at Friends of the Heart, we are
not trying to retreat from anything, but rather advancing toward
our aspirations. Daily life does not normally offer us the quiet
spaciousness needed to go beyond a certain threshold of calm in
meditation. During retreat, we have the opportunity to move through
repeated meditation cycles, allowing us to go deeper each time
in a safe, quiet, compassionate atmosphere.
Donations and Payments
If you wish to make a donation to Friends of the Heart
or to Catherine Jetsun Yeshe, we have setup Paypal to receive payments
for audio teachings, memberships and for other activities of Friends
of the Heart. We prefer to work through paypal as it is time consuming
for a volunteer organization to handle cheques and email credit card
orders. You can use Paypal to make secure payments in your own currency.
The Canadian dollar amount will be automatically converted for your
credit card or bank account.
Please give with a generous heart.
