Mindfulness Meditation

Meditate at Home

No classes July and August

Beginning September 14, 2010:

Tuesdays 7 to 9pm with Gwen Robart

The Six Principles of Enlightened Living:

The Six Paramitas and the Four Noble Truths

Mindfulness practice finds its completion in wisdom and ever deepening heart opening.

This series is somewhat planned for those who have some meditation experience and wish to deepen their understanding and practice. We also welcome those who are new to meditation.  And it is also intended for those who have completed the introductory calm and Clear course. Depending on the experience of attendees, expect sits of 30 minutes or more.

This fall we will focus on the Six Principles of Enlightened Living:  The Six Paramitas and the Four Noble Truths.  Time spent on these teachings will be, in part, determined by the class members, so please come prepared to participate in this small, yet important design of these classes.  We will be referencing the teachings in ‘The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching’ by Thich Nhat Hanh.  You may find it helpful to do some reading on these subjects either through this book, or through your own exploration of other authors.  There are a large variety of talks on the internet, and you may find it helpful to explore and familiarize yourself with these writings.

Learning meditation is not a linear process, but rather an individual synthesis of experience.  So we give you some techniques, ask some questions and share.  The structure is open and will develop content depending on those who come more regularly.

We generally start the class with a connected series of sitting, walking/standing and sitting meditation. This helps build a bridge between the contemplative act of meditation and our daily activities. Each class will include time for practice as well as discussion and learning. Practice, including sitting or walking meditation makes up at least half or more of class time.
