White Tara Intensive Meditation Program

As the student's practice deepens, the desire to engage in more intensive personal work arises. Long-term practitioners want to learn how to maintain the deeper calm that has been developed or gain further insight into their own journeys. Some students wish to prepare themselves to teach meditation and Path studies. The Intensive Meditation Program (IMP) has been developed to address those needs.

Each individual will work at his/her own pace. The participant will emerge from the program with a strong grounding in textual teachings as well as a personal hands-on understanding of their own unfoldment. The end result? Becoming able to extend compassion more actively, practically, and skillfully towards others and oneself in daily life.

People who live out-of-town or out-of-country are able to participate in this program through a correspondence system (telephone/e-mail/personalized tapes).

Underlying Objectives of the Program

  • To give students the opportunity to engage in intensive personal work by receiving specific, individually-catered teaching directly from Catherine
  • To provide Catherine's family with income that could make their lives more sustainable

Period of Study

Each student should be ready to commit to one year of work in the Intensive Program. Terms begin in October. At the end of the one-year period, the student and Catherine will discuss how to continue on.

Cost and Benefits

Traditionally, students considered it an honour to be able to share a portion of their own livelihood with their teacher so that the lama might continue to enhance his/her practice, and thereby pass on further teachings to the student body.

Consequently, this program is being set up on a donation system, not a fee for service. Although there is a suggested minimum pledge, the student may choose to donate more or less according to their means. An appropriate amount can be decided upon through a private discussion with Catherine.

IMP Membership

  • Acceptance into the program is based on an interview with Catherine
  • One full year commitment
  • Reports to Catherine once every two months in October, December, February, April and June. July, August and September will be "off" months, when no reports will be received
  • Replies to reports will be by phone call, e-mail, recording or personal visit
  • Suggested minimum monthly pledge of $75 CDN ($900/year or $225/quarterly)
  • Crisis access to Catherine
